Winter is slowly being felt and soon enough, we would be feeling the cold and crisp breeze along with a touch of snow. It is also very important that we do know just what we would need to make sure that when we go traveling and driving in our cars, we would be safe and sound even if we go to long distances. Buying quality Ford parts would also help. As well as purchasing the right kinds of Daewoo safety parts, safety features and equipment to help you out.

On this, Joe Wiesenfelder, the senior editor for Cars.com says, “Most consumers are familiar with four wheel drive and how that helps with driving in ice and snow. However, there are other technologies like heated side mirrors and headlight washers that improve winter-driving visibility that might be less familiar to consumers, but are also important safety options to consider.”

One of the most common problems that we do encounter while driving through the winter season is taking control of our vehicles through slippery roads. It can even be quite a challenge especially when we try to make turns or try to make sudden stops. These can be dangerous but with the help of some features, our vehicles can surely be quite easy to control and could also give us additional safety.

Antilock brakes could help you out prevent your wheels from locking up or from skidding during winter driving. This vehicle feature and technology also allows you to steer even when you are halting suddenly. On the other hand, there also is the traction control system which has the capacity to feel if the vehicle’s drive wheels actually start to slip. When it does, the traction control system also then reduces the power of your engine and then sends commands to the antilock braking system so that the power still goes through to your vehicle’s wheels so that you can still maneuver your car to safety.

Other safety features you can use for your vehicle can also include the electronic stability system, a four wheel drive, all season or winter tires, and a winter transmission mode.

A vehicle with a four-wheel drive system can bring many advantages to those who buy it. The system itself increases the power of your tires to hold on a surface without slipping. This is one great advantage especially when you are fond of driving in muddy areas, the sand or even on slippery surfaces.

When people hear this kind of system, most of them associate it to SUVs and trucks. Because of this feature, some of the vehicles cost a little extra compared to the usual ones. Despite being so pricey, people still use it and more people opt to buy them.

There are disadvantages of using this kind of system for vehicles. Some say it is less efficient when it comes to fuel usage; others say it is requires heavy maintenance. However, more people have proven that the advantages of using these kinds of vehicles outweigh the downside of using it. They have been increasingly popular for comfort riding. The torque on the wheels is distributed thus most drivers gain control of the vehicle on all sorts of road conditions. However, the mechanism of the wheels is only one way in gaining control. Suspension is also one aspect that can help in maintaining control of the vehicle.

Some people modify their vehicles. The need for change varies according to how you use your vehicles. That is why most of the big four-wheeled vehicles (like pick-ups, trucks and SUVs) have accessories that allow them to be at their best at all times; may it be through looks and the feeling that you get when you drive around with it. Accessories like skyjacker lift kits add more beauty or better performance for your four-wheel drive automobiles. These types of accessories allow your vehicle to look bigger.

Everyone wants to have this kind of look for their automobile because it makes them look mighty and strong. For men more of them find it more masculine. On the other hand, for women, it makes them tough despite the soft appearance. Appearance is not the only thing that will be modified in here. When you install the right lifts for them, the suspension of your four-wheel drive vehicles are enhanced. No wonder most automobiles with this system are better with off-roads because the tractions of the wheels can be greatly complimented with an improved suspension system.

People might have discovered the down side of using four-wheel drive vehicles. However, there are many good things about it (especially when put into good use). If you want to go past the limits of your vehicle without putting yourself in danger, you can modify them. All cars have built-in system to absorb shock. They also have their own suspension systems, as they are very important to maintain the control over varying speeds. Sometimes what is built-in may not be enough. Add accessories like skyjacker lift kits to enjoy your vehicles even more. Not only will it make them look steamy and sexy, it will also make your four-wheel drive vehicle run smoothly anywhere at anytime.

Most early motor vehicles had a basic set up with the engine mounted in the front with a gearbox attached to it driving the rear wheels only and this became the normal design of most vehicles for many years. As design progressed engine position and transmission (gearbox) position was experimented with to help with traction and handling. Rear engine and mid-engine vehicles became available as did front and all wheel drive. Four wheel drive vehicles began life early in the twentieth century and a number of companies had their own designs for supplying off road trucks for business and commercial use. The importance of having load carrying vehicles that could transverese harsh terrain was important due to the lack of roads. Both the British and American armies during World War One had four wheel drive trucks for heavy terrain use for carrying troops and equipment. However the need for a true multi purpose on and off road vehicle became apparent.

With the onset of World War Two the need for off road vehicles that could literally drive over any terrain became a necessity of the military and with any technology war tends to drive designs forward quickly. In the early days of the war the United States Military required a light-weight four wheel drive vehicle that could transverese almost any terrain. A number of companies came forward with designs including Bantam, Ford and Willys. The result of this was the world famous Willys Jeep. The jeep proved to be both very rugged and dependable through out the war and by the close it had become well known for its on and off road ability and its durability.

After the war the potential within the civilian market for jeeps was clearly apparent and Willys filed for the trademark registration of the name Jeep and began production for the public sector. The first models named Civillian Jeeps (CJ) began production in 1945 and the name Jeep became an icon of tough go anywhere vehicles soon to become a legend to future four wheel drive owners. The history of the Jeep and production models are as follows:

1945 - 1949 CJ-2A

1946 - 1953 CJ-3A

1947 - 1965 Willys Jeep Truck

1948 - 1950 Willys Jeepster

1952 - 1968 CJ-3B

1954 - 1983 CJ-5

1955 - 1981 CJ-6

1976 - 1986 CJ-7

1981 - 1986 CJ-8

1953 Kaiser buys Willys Overland.

1970 American Motors Corporation AMC takes over Kaiser-Jeep.

1987 Chrysler Corporation buys American Motors Corporation.

1998 Daimler-Benz merges with Chrysler Corporation.

The modern day Chrysler Jeep has many models and incorporates all the benefits of modern technology and comfort but it has tried to retain some of the old willys features as the front grill shows.

Back in the United Kingdom the Land Rover project was first born and the legend began.

A rally driving experience can be your thrill of a lifetime if you take the chance to do it sometime. Sure, driving the kids to school, going to the supermarket and driving to work are a part of daily life but there are all sorts of off road driving escapades waiting to be explored. Off road driving or rally driving, is driving on unpaved, raw roads such as sand, gravel, riverbeds, mud, snow, rocks, and other natural environments. It involves driving a highly specialized automobile such as a four-wheel drive or an all terrain vehicle through such natural surroundings. Rally driving is a sport which has become quite popular with people who are looking for a high adrenaline filled, recreational pursuit.

Off Roading first emerged in the early 20th century. The rally driving experience actually materialized as a television show on ABC and quickly became so popular as to be a full fledged sport. Rally driving has been dominated by the Nordics since the end of the 1970’s. Earlier, the amateurs of the 1950’s, were paid almost nothing. 1960 is when Eric Carlsson became the world’s first rally driving celebrity. Today, the World Rally Championship caters to almost all the continents.

Off road driving is also known as “autocross” in the UK. Most people think this type of driving is all about the speed and horsepower you aren’t able to legally accumulate on metropolitan roads and streets we use everyday. However, rally driving stresses more on car handling and driver skill. Out of all the motorsports you can get involved in, off roading is the most affordable and inexpensive and caters to the middle class as well as the elite. It has become a lucrative business for car manufacturers to show off their products in rally driving competitions and other off roading events. These races test the car’s performance, safety and reliability for mass consumer approval.

There are two types of major rally driving experiences which are known as stage and road rallies. Stage rallies are basically the more professional branch of racing using direct speed and stretches of roads which are closed off from urban traffic. It also involves other mediums such as asphalt mountain passes, rough forest trails, ice, snow, desert sand, etc. This type of rally driving experience is mainly popular in Europe, Asia and Australia. If accuracy and navigation are your assets you’ll be sure to win this race!

Road rallies are the original form of road rallying. Highways are used in this type of race but they can be quite difficult to master in long distances. It is known sometimes as the “time-speed-distance rally.” The earlier races were known as trials and some of the races are still known as trials today. Rally driving experiences are very popular among the common people such as motor clubs and individuals who are fans of motor sports.

Road rallies cover all types of surfaces across the world and you never know where and when they will hold a race. This keeps each road rally driving experience exciting and captivating for the drivers as well as their audience and fans. Now you can stop living your road rally dreams on video games and bring them to life! If you think this is a thrill for you, go ahead and give it a go and you may find that a rally driving experience is worth having.

Touring Australia by car offers a unique freedom and more and more people choose to traverse this beautiful land on their own four wheels. For New South Wales and the Queensland coast, no special considerations need to be taken into account when renting a car. Just make sure the seats are nice and soft, as you’ll be in the car for long periods.

If you’re heading for the hinterlands of central Australia, it’s a different matter altogether. A four-wheel drive vehicle is a must, and you’ll need to bring your own food and water supplies as well as extra fuel.

It is generally a hassle-free experience to rent a car in Australia. As long as you are staying for less than 6 months, you can drive anywhere with your driving licence from home. Best deals Australia car rentals Australia recognises foreign licences and you are not required to use an international permit.

The road rules are fairly straightforward and common sense should prevail. Everyone in the car must be strapped in with a seat belt, while 0.5mg/ml is the legal alcohol limit. The police conduct random stops in all states. Australians drive on the left-hand side of the road.

The driving age is 16 to 18 years old, depending on the state. Expect to part with anywhere from A$0.90 to A$1 per litre at the pump. You may notice prices are higher in the outback compared to those on a highway near Sydney.

In developed areas, Australia’s motorways are excellent. They are all paved, wide and uncongested outside of the big cities. They are also simple to navigate with all signs being well-marked.

The motorways are classified as ‘A’ routes. Their speed limits are between 60 and 68mph (100 and 110kph). ‘B’ routes are smaller highways, usually having two lanes, but are equally well-maintained. Discounted rates Australia rental autos You can comfortably travel at 60mph (100kph). When you get into suburban areas or city driving, this will be considered a ‘C’ route and your speed should not exceed 30 to 35mph (50 to 60kph).

If you’re heading to the outback, regular highway rules apply, except on the Northern Territory’s remote roads. These roads are long, narrow and straight. For the most part, these routes are hassle-free, but be prepared for a few potholes and adverse weather conditions. A dust storm will reduce your speed to a crawl.

Service stations are spread roughly between 60 and 200 miles (100 and 300kms) along motorways, many of them open 24 hours, making it easy to travel continually. A few hours is all you should undertake in one driving session before stopping to rest. The best way to travel is to plan ahead to stop somewhere overnight. Having more than one driver will also help the long journeys to pass more easily.

In the outback, it’s not so cut and dry. The operating hours of service station are erratic, and you may not find it as easy to use your overseas credit card. As with everything in the outback, it’s always better to plan ahead as there are many more chances to be stranded in this massive desert. One precaution could be to join an auto club. In case of emergency, dial: 13 11 11 for roadside assistance.

The Audi Driving Experience is a driving scheme introduced by Audi in the year 1983. This driving programme is an advanced and is based on the high performance. The primary motto of this scheme is to enrich drivers’ knowledge, by using physical “hands-on” tution and theory, which is primarily based on the complexities in modern Audi cars. This usually includes ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), high speed handling, ABS (Anti-lock braking system), quattro 4 wheel drive system. Usually, this training programme is being conducted in a safe environment, far away from public highways and roads, but in the location where a driver can be taught the techniques so that he / she can cope in any real time situation and emergency periods.

In the UK, the Audi Driving Experience is organised by Audi UK and is located at the motor racing circuit, Silverstone. Whereas, in Europe the programme is being offered in various formats, which include special ice driving in Finland and Nürburgring’s Nordshleife. In China, the programme was launched on September 2nd 2003 which was the first advance training scheme offered for drivers to the Chinese motoring public. The three styles or themes of the driving courses are “advanced track training”, “defensive driving training” and “winter rally training”. Now, the training programme is operated at two centres namely Zhuhai international circuit and Shanghai.

In South Africa, Audi’s training programme is located at the Kyalami historic race circuit where the course is running for many years and established themselves as the most popular high performance course in the entire nation. Vehicles take part in the course in South Africa are new Audi A4 2008, TT, RS4 and S5. There are other courses conducted for advanced safety that feature Q7.

The story of this training programme in USA is quite different. Emotive and Audi of America offers the course to the drivers of USA, to feel comfortable with all latest Audi vehicles on all roads, by conducting various courses. The US version of this course is followed in Germany as well, and it turned out as one of the biggest enthusiast driving education experience in the world, that offer courses in more than 40 countries. In the year 2007, the tour in USA had 10 stops which rose to 15 in 2008. The newest Audi models featured in 2007 season was S5 and A4, A5 took part in 2008 season.

The introductory program offered by Audi is just a complementary to registered guests and the enthusiast program is half-a-day experience which includes track time in both R8 and RS4. This is offered only in USA now.

The only way to keep up with the latest about driving range is to constantly stay on the lookout for new information. If you read everything you find about driving range, it won’t take long for you to become an influential authority.

Those of you not familiar with the latest on driving range now have at least a basic understanding. But there’s more to come.

All golf courses, reputable ones anyway, have driving ranges. This has nothing to do with the maneuverability of a golf cart, but the player practicing shots and getting loosened up for a round on the links.

The driving range is the best place to practice a new shot or technique that the golfer has heard about but has not tried as of yet. It is never a good idea for the golfer to attempt a new shot, or a new grip on the golf course. This is because a muffed shot, and those are easy to hit, can cause the golfer to lose faith in the stroke, the club or the grip he or she was using. Therefore, it is always best to work on the shot at the driving range before ever considering trying it on the course.

Every golfer has his or her own way of getting ready to play when they go to the driving range. For some, the idea it to take the smaller clubs, such as the pitching wedge, hit a few balls to get loosened up, then hit with larger and larger clubs, finishing up the workout with the woods. But, for others, he or she will start with the larger clubs, getting their stroke down with the driver and woods first, then working their way to the smaller clubs, such as the pitching and sand wedge. For others, though, they will take one particular club to work on. This is normally done when a golfer is having problems hitting this club regularly.

By using only one club, the golfer has to focus on what they are doing with it. Are they gripping the club in a comfortable manner that will allow their wrists to be flexible on the follow through? Or, is their stance too closed or too open? This can have an adverse affect on a shot, with a closed stance preventing the golfer from getting the distance he or she thinks he or she should get with this particular club. A stance too wide open will affect the golfer’s balance and, therefore, the accuracy of the shot. These are some of the things a golfer will work on at the driving range.

But, then again, there is always the new tip that is guaranteed to increase both the length of a shot and the accuracy of the shot (and there’s also oceanfront property in Oklahoma for those interested in making such a purchase). A lot of these so-called “tips” are ways for someone else to make money from golfing equipment or videos. Still, there are some tips that are legitimate and will help. Regardless, all tips should be tried out on the driving range before the golfer ever thinks about stepping up to the tee on the first box.

Remember, though, the driving range is not for all terrain vehicles, four wheel drive pickups, monster trucks, or to see how sharp a golf cart can be turned. A driving range is a place where golfers go to get ready for their game and try new tips.

Knowing enough about driving range to make solid, informed choices cuts down on the fear factor. If you apply what you’ve just learned about driving range, you should have nothing to worry about.

You can change the whole look of your automobile just by getting some new tires and rims. Even though these two things may come expensive they will make your ride look the best when it comes to accessories for your ride.

You should first ask yourself do you want a bigger tire and wheel or a smaller combo. I would want to get the biggest ones that I could get so they would look good when I drove down the street. Even though that’s just me a lot of people would probably just like to get something that would just make their ride look nice.

If you get a taller and bigger rim people will be able to see it and notice it more then when you have smaller rims that are not as big. That is why you will see so many people with big rims because they want to show off their rims and want people to see them.

You might even have stock tires and rims and you just want to get rims so people would actually notice your ride now. Even though rims and tires cost a good bit of money it will make your ride look so much better.

Your next choice needs to be what kind of rims you like and what style. There are so many different styles of rims and tires that you can choose from that it would take you a while to get the pair that you really wanted if you sat and looked through a magazine. You can get rims from chrome to black with the chrome lip. There are just all kinds of tires and rims that you can buy but just remember all tires and rims are going to be a little on the steep side if you are wanting quality.

You will also want to know if your car is front wheel drive or all wheel drive because some makers make the two ends different so you might have to get to separate packages. Most of the time you will just get all the same four rims and four tires. If you really want to find a good deal on some wheels then you need to go to Google and start looking because you are not going to find anything just looking around.

After you have found your rims and tires you are going to need to put them on so you will just want to have them installed because usually when you buy rims and tires from a store they will do all the stuff needed for you. Unless you just brought them some rims and tires and you wanted them installed.

To compliment the striking appearance of a Saturn, aside from its bold looks and sleek contours, a Saturn Wheel Hub is attached to the center of the wheels. Furthermore, it has the primary function of attaching the wheels firmly in place. This center hub where the wheel hub protects is where the lugs and bolts are found. They hold a firm grip on the wheel itself so as not be removed.

Such assembly is composed of bearings to enable the wheels to rotate with ease and low-friction level. On rear wheel drives vehicles like the ones from Saturn, there is a rear wheel bearing on each end of the drive axle and two wheel bearings on the front wheel assembly. Built with a tough composition, the hub can bear constant loads. It may come with ornamental metal works to blend well with the overall appearance of its wheels. However, it must be utilized along with the clamp. This is equally integral for a vehicle with a tandem axle (four wheels with two axles on the rear.

But without the use of a Saturn Wheel Hub, there is a great probability that a thief may remove the clamped wheel from the axle and drive away on the three remaining wheels without the need for a replacement tire. Since the bearings endure most of the vehicle’s weight, there is a chance that it will wear out, eventually. A defective Saturn Wheel Hub can be detected through a vibration or a humming noise at low speeds while turning. Such noise would mean that the bearings start to wear down. Also, other factors like moisture and maladjustments to the bearings may result in immediate damage. With moisture, rust begins to build up on these bearings, contaminating the grease. Maladjustments, in the meantime, can cause the grease seals to wear. And if leakage happens, the bearings could leak out. Replacement is the proper remedy for this.

For seal bearing assemblies, if a seal has failed, the whole Saturn Wheel Hub assembly must also be replaced but older vehicle’s doesn’t require replacement of the whole assembly. Instead, a damaged seal can be replaced with a new one to extend the life of the bearings.

Wildfires have scorched acres of National Forests lands in the last several dry years. Manned fire lookouts can prevent such fires, which close OHV trails and limit forest access. The Forest Service has dismantled hundreds of lookouts despite their importance. Remaining lookout towers, intriguing structures perched in precarious and remote locations, have achieved cult status. Many have been refurbished into rustic cabins and campers rent them for overnight backcountry trips.

Plumas National Forest in northeastern California has two adjacent off-road trails with a total of 5 fire lookouts to visit. Not all the lookout towers still standing are currently in use. Advancements in fire detection systems and budgetary restrictions gradually eliminated the need to man all the towers. Plumas, like most other California National Forests, still staffs lookouts in the summer.

Thompson Peak Trail starts 9 miles south of Susanville. Grizzly Ridge Trail is located about 24 miles southwest of Susanville off Highway 89. Both trails are easy dirt roads with more difficult spur trails leading up to the towers. These are just two of the trails in the area that form a network of interesting 4-wheel drive roads for all difficulty levels.

One trail climbs to Thompson Peak and Red Rock Fire Lookouts. Both are staffed during fire season, and the watchman typically gives visitors permission to climb the towers and admire the view. Constructed in 1955, Red Rock Fire Lookout fell into disuse for a short time, but rejuvenated and reopened in 1984.

The Civilian Conservation Corps built Thompson Peak Lookout in about 1931. The square concrete building beside the lookout was added in 1950 as the seat of a three-legged iron tower. A radar dome topped the 34-foot tower and scanned the sky as part of the Early Warning Defense System, created during World War II. Throughout the war, a typical part of all lookouts’ jobs included scanning the horizon for Japanese aircraft.

Not only does the Thompson Peak site serve as a fire lookout, it is also a noted observation point for raptor migration and a popular hang-glider launch site. Falcons, bald eagles, and hang-gliders ride thermals, created by warm air rising from Honey Lake below, to gain altitude.

The other trail winds through the forest with spurt trails to Mt. Hough, Argentine Rock, and Smith Peak Fire Lookouts. It is also part of a designated Forest Service OHV trail network for ATVs and dirtbikes. Snowmobilers and cross-country skiers flock to this trail in winter. Lake Davis, at the road’s end, is stocked with trout and is popular with boaters, picnickers, and campers. Remains of the Walker Mine and mill are located at the mid-point of this drive. This extensive copper mining operation once employed 600 men and maintained a sizable town for its workers nearby. Beware; the huge tailings pond and mill remains have been declared a toxic site.

Established in about 1909, Mt. Hough (pronounced Huff) is one of the earliest lookouts erected in Plumas National Forest. Construction costs totaled only $303 at the time. Plumas replaced the original lookout tower with a new structure in 1916 and another in 1934. The forest finally built the three-story structure on the site today in 1986.

With its commercial phone line directly to “civilization,” this station acts as a hub for the forest’s other lookouts. With permission, visitors can normally climb the tower during the summer to see the expansive 360-degree views. Like the site of Thompson Peak Lookout, hang-gliders also launch from Mt. Hough. The spur to the lookout continues past the tower, descending steeply to the picturesque Crystal Lake. This rough, steep descent is difficult.

Argentine Rock Fire Lookout is 10 miles from the turn-off to Mt. Hough Lookout. The forest constructed this now-abandoned structure in 1934. Budget cutbacks and the use of fixed-wing aircraft to spot wildfires eliminated the need to staff this lookout. Vandalism and neglect have made the structure unsafe.

At Smith Peak Fire Lookout, you can look back over Grizzly Ridge and overlook Lake Davis. The Smith Peak site was initially used only as an emergency vantage point. Only the most rugged watchmen manned the rock crest before the forest constructed the current structure in 1935. Forest service staff welcomes visitors in the summer between 9:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
